STORIES & UPDATES
Many of you ask if we're ready for a break and to be done for the season. It's a hard question to answer because we love what we do, but we also need the additional time.
During the season, things break and need fixing, we want to implement new organization systems or build new structures, we need to deep clean and sterilize equipment - the list goes on and on - but we don't have the time to do these projects.
Last week I talked about the tasks that need to be completed after we close. We still have a ton!
Mulching strawberries
Pruning raspberry plants
Covering dahlia tubers (we're going to try tarping them this year)
Sterilizing seeding trays
Picking up irrigation lines in the field
Planting our spring flower bulbs
Sweeping and cleaning our coolers, store, storage areas, and greenhouse
And so much more
We're going to try to get quite a bit done this week, but we will also be fulfilling orders, stocking the store, and packing shares as usual.
So, in a way, we are looking forward to the off-season so that we can get projects done that we aren't able to complete during the height of the season when we're busy with the day-to-day routines.

But, we'll also miss this a lot! Randy and I thrive on the fast-paced operations here, the physical labor, the hustle and bustle of the store and seeing our customers. And as for me, I just hate the cold!
So, it's not that I'm ready to be done with the farm, it's that I know that the time away is necessary. In just a few weeks we'll be ordering seeds and supplies, running financial reports, renewing licenses, and so many more odd jobs. If every day was summer (as much as I would love the weather...) the stress would probably make us sick, so having an ebb and flow to life is important.

In just a week, we'll close the door to the store and wrap up our 13th season of farming. Was this our favorite year? I'm not sure. We were blessed in so many ways - with a good crew, good customers, and new endeavors. But there were also a lot of struggles. A cold, rainy, cloudy spring that set us back, slower sales in the store, and cuts to vital funding were all scary. Sometimes we question our ability to stay in business long-term, support our family, or leave a legacy for the next generation.
But we know that right here and now, we're okay. We're blessed every day to live this life. And, if you're reading, here from the week we open through the week we close, until the bitter end, we're thankful. Our Extended Season members are the backbone of our farm, and we're grateful that you choose us to provide your family's food.
Have a wonderful, healthy, restful winter!

Vegetable Subscription Pickup Policies
All pickups must take place within store operating hours. For many reasons, we can't leave shares outside the store. Pickup days are Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays.
If you need to skip your share for the week, or change your pickup day, you must provide us with 48 hours' notice for any of the options below. This is because we pack shares the day before pickup. Once your share has been harvested and packed, we can not change or cancel your pickup.
For Tuesday pickups being changed, we need to know by Sunday.
Wednesday pickups, we need to know by Monday.
Saturday pickups, we need to know by Thursday.
You have the option to choose another pickup day in a given week: we offer share pickup on Tuesday, Wednesday, or Saturday only.
You can skip a pickup and receive a double the following week.
If you miss your pickup, we will hold your share for 24 hours after your pickup day, and then it will be donated to a local food pantry. With more members than ever before, we don't have the cooler space to hold onto shares longer than this. This is a great option if you accidentally miss your pickup - just come the next day.
You can always send a guest to pick up in your place by simply notifying us of their name.
Please send us an email to laurelglenfarm@gmail.com 48 hours before your anticipated pickup in order to make a change. You must submit your request in writing in order to leave a paper trail. This allows you to show proof to our store staff at pickup in the event that we need clarification.
If a share is picked up outside of your scheduled time (aside from an approved change) or the 24 hour holding period, you will be billed for an additional share.
