We're gearing up for our seedling sale and the farmers' market

STORIES & UPDATES

This week, we spent a lot of time prepping for our seedling sale, which starts Saturday, May 16th and runs every day through early June.

We transplanted cucurbits: cucumbers, summer squash, zucchini, and pumpkins, plus peppers, more tomatoes, and zinnias. This coming week, we'll quality control everything by replacing any pots that need new transplants and organize everything so that we can put high quality items out for sale on Saturday morning. Everything need a hand-written tag as well, which we'll finish making and inserting into pots this week.

Saturday, May 16, 2026

9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Sunday, May 17, 2026

10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Seedlings will be set up in the barnyard on these days. Come browse and bring a box to transfer your seedlings home!

Remaining seedlings will continue to be sold during our store's open hours into June while availability lasts.

Sold as single plants:

  • Heirloom slicing tomatoes

  • Red and yellow slicing tomatoes

  • Red and yellow grape tomatoes

  • Red cherry tomatoes

  • Eggplant

  • Red bell peppers

  • Jalapenos

Sold in 2-packs:

  • Slicing and pickling cucumbers

  • Zucchini

  • Yellow squash

  • Broccoli

  • Kale

  • Pumpkins

Sold in 4-packs:

  • Green and red lettuce

  • Green beans

  • Basil, cilantro, thyme, parsley, mint, oregano

  • Sunflowers and zinnias

We also spent some time on a not-so-glamorous task: sanitizing! After we transplant seedlings into the field, we clean and sanitize the trays to prevent the spread of any potential bacteria or disease that could kill a future plant we seed into it.

The crew also sanitized the walls and fans in the walk-in cooler, since we'll soon be harvesting enough to fill it up with crates of veggies. And, for a little TLC, they sanitized the roadside sign. We're hoping to get new lettering on it to update the information.

It was a chilly week overall, but we caught up on a lot of random tasks: transplanting lettuce into bigger cell trays to give them more room to grow before they're planted outside, planting the second round of brassicas, staking and stringing pea plants, prepping for the Shelton Farmers' Market to begin on Saturday 5/16, and seeding the third round of brassicas.

This week, you're receiving an Asian greens mix in your share. It's a spicy cabbage-family blend of mustard, kale, choy sum, and tatsoi (a relative of bok choy). This mix can be eaten raw or stir fried. It'll pair nicely with the bok choy in your share if you're making a stir-fry, though my favorite way to eat it is as the base of a salad with chicken, oranges, and peanuts.

The veggie swap basket will return this week. Please use this option if you'd like to trade out one item in your share. Anything left at the end of the day will be boxed for donation.

Hanging flower baskets are available! They're $27.50 each or 2 for $52.

VEGETABLE SUBSCRIPTION PICKUP POLICIES

  • All pickups must take place within store operating hours. For many reasons, we can't leave shares outside the store. Pickup days are Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays.

  • If you need to skip your share for the week, or change your pickup day, you must provide us with 48 hours' notice for any of the options below. This is because we pack shares the day before pickup. Once your share has been harvested and packed, we can not change or cancel your pickup.

    • For Tuesday pickups being changed, we need to know by Sunday.

    • Wednesday pickups, we need to know by Monday.

    • Saturday pickups, we need to know by Thursday.

  • You have the option to choose another pickup day in a given week: we offer share pickup on Tuesday, Wednesday, or Saturday only.

  • You can skip a pickup and receive a double the following week.

  • If you miss your pickup, we will hold your share for 24 hours after your pickup day, and then it will be donated to a local food pantry. This is a great option if you accidentally miss your pickup - just come the next day.

  • You can always send a guest to pick up in your place by simply notifying us of their name.

  • Please send us an email to laurelglenfarm@gmail.com 48 hours before your anticipated pickup in order to make a change. You must submit your request in writing in order to leave a paper trail. This allows you to show proof to our store staff at pickup in the event that we need clarification.

  • If a share is picked up outside of your scheduled time (aside from an approved change) or the 24 hour holding period, you will be billed for an additional share.
