We sometimes fear the "dreaded week two"

STORIES & UPDATES
Hi members!
We always called the second week of the CSA our "dreaded week" of the program. The reason is that the first week always seems somewhat abundant; what's been overwintered is ready to go and the first round of veggies need to be harvested right away.
Once we get to week two, we have a nice variety, but sometimes the items are borderline ready to be harvested. It makes it tricky to come up with a solid list of items! Over the past couple of years, we've avoided that feeling of dread - it all depends on the weather conditions.
If I didn't tell you, you probably wouldn't have noticed at all. The dread is all on our end, a little bit of imposter syndrome as we question what to provide, count inventory closely, and weigh the pros and cons of offering a particular item this week versus next. Which crop can hang out longer? Will we have enough to give everyone?

This week, we're providing beautiful radishes. It's a nice change up from the abundant greens we offer in the spring. I made some delicious quick pickled radishes and scallions that I served on top of soy-sauce marinated pork tenderloin and rice. Here's the recipe that inspired it.
Make sure you're in our Subscription Members’ Facebook group. Here, we'll chat about what we're cooking, and we'd love to see some photos of your meals to get inspired!
If you're new to the program, you'll find that you get a Free Choice item that's built into your share. You'll choose it from the same table that held your microgreen trays last week. This week, the offerings will include more scallions, pea tendrils, and possibly some type of greens (TBD). Most often, these are seasonal items that you've already received once in your share, and you can decide if you'd like it again that week.
We're doing a fun little bonus this week! You'll get a Monopoly-inspired "Community Perk" card. It'll entitle you to an extra free choice item at one of your pickups before June 6th. Hang onto it or spend it now!

This week, you're also receiving Tokyo bekana in your share.
Here's a screenshot of the description on our Vegetable Library of Resources page on our website. Make sure you visit this throughout the season for information about uncommon veggies.

It'll list recipes like these:

Everyone seems to love Tokyo bekana - it's so tender!
It was a pretty busy week on the farm, especially as Randy sprained his ankle on Monday! To be honest, we were grateful it wasn't worse and didn't happen during our busy season.
Aside from stocking the store, we did a lot of transplanting: lettuce and escarole in the field, basil and tomatoes for the upcoming seedling sale, and peppers into bigger plug trays before they're planted into the field.

We also seeded the next round of greens in the field, cleaned up the herb garden, and moved all of the bags of tomatoes into greenhouse 2, to hopefully be ready in June.
We're moving full steam ahead, planting and prepping. We're so grateful for a very productive staff, too!

Hanging flower baskets are available! Don't forget to grab one for Mother's Day, too! They're $27.50 each or 2 for $52.

VEGETABLE SUBSCRIPTION PICKUP POLICIES
All pickups must take place within store operating hours. For many reasons, we can't leave shares outside the store. Pickup days are Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays.
If you need to skip your share for the week, or change your pickup day, you must provide us with 48 hours' notice for any of the options below. This is because we pack shares the day before pickup. Once your share has been harvested and packed, we can not change or cancel your pickup.
For Tuesday pickups being changed, we need to know by Sunday.
Wednesday pickups, we need to know by Monday.
Saturday pickups, we need to know by Thursday.
You have the option to choose another pickup day in a given week: we offer share pickup on Tuesday, Wednesday, or Saturday only.
You can skip a pickup and receive a double the following week.
If you miss your pickup, we will hold your share for 24 hours after your pickup day, and then it will be donated to a local food pantry. This is a great option if you accidentally miss your pickup - just come the next day.
You can always send a guest to pick up in your place by simply notifying us of their name.
Please send us an email to laurelglenfarm@gmail.com 48 hours before your anticipated pickup in order to make a change. You must submit your request in writing in order to leave a paper trail. This allows you to show proof to our store staff at pickup in the event that we need clarification.
If a share is picked up outside of your scheduled time (aside from an approved change) or the 24 hour holding period, you will be billed for an additional share.
