I can barely remember this fast week

STORIES & UPDATES

As I sit down to write this, I'm thinking to myself, "What did we do this week?" It was one of those weeks that flies by, and though you know you worked so hard, you don't even know what you did.

First and foremost, make sure you read all about our 2026 Vegetable Subscription Program. I made a blog post that covers all of the information about our 2-Day early registration sale. You can receive a discount if you enroll on Sunday, October 12th or Monday, October 13th and pay by cash or check.

All of the 2026 Subscription information is posted here as well.

Usually I look back at my camera roll to remind me about the week, but I'm noticing that I don't have a lot of photos. I think it's because I was personally so busy that I felt a little disconnected from the projects the field crew worked on.

For example, each week we send out orders of veggies to Shelton and Trumbull Public Schools, and that has kept me incredibly busy. The Shelton veggies are distributed from the high school, but the Trumbull order consisted of delivering to each school. This meant I boxed up orders for 9 schools, color coded and labeled boxes, created two delivery routes, and made sure the truck was loaded in a sensible way.

I also made sure our inventory was organized and documented so we could send out our wholesale availability list, which is a weekly task that grows harder as our cooler is filled during the most bountiful time of year.

Peter's day off on Tuesday meant that he helped us on the farm. He took ownership of hosing off all of the radishes you found on the free choice table on Wednesday.

That day, we also stacked 98 cases of Sunday Sauce in the barn, which we picked up from the processor - a much higher yield than we expected! So much so that we will need to label many of the jars by hand this winter.

The next day, I spent some time in a first grade classroom, as I'm part of a farmer speaker network associated with the Yellow Farmhouse Education Center in Stonington. I taught the students all about the uncommon veggies we grow and left them with some husk cherry samples to try.

And on Saturday, we held our Bundle-Your-Own-Corn event.

We'll continue to host this during open hours this week as we have a ton more to offer. The colors are absolutely stunning. (3 for $11. Don't forget to take a complimentary piece of wire you can use to twist the corn together and make a door hanger, if you'd like.)

Our field crew continued to harvest tomatoes, peppers, green beans, cauliflower, and winter squash. We're seeing the first of the lettuce, broccoli rabe, and more cool weather greens, which will trickle their way into share offerings. We loved the size of the beets this week, but the flash poll on our Facebook group told us you're still in the mood for summer crops while they're here. Message received! There will be more time for those cool crops ahead...

Plum tomatoes decided to turn red in abundance during the last couple of weeks. We have 25 lb. bulk boxes packed every day - walk in and ask when you're ready.

Vegetable Subscription Pickup Policies

  • All pickups must take place within store operating hours. For many reasons, we can't leave shares outside the store. Pickup days are Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays.

  • If you need to skip your share for the week, or change your pickup day, you must provide us with 48 hours' notice for any of the options below. This is because we pack shares the day before pickup. Once your share has been harvested and packed, we can not change or cancel your pickup.

  • For Tuesday pickups being changed, we need to know by Sunday.

  • Wednesday pickups, we need to know by Monday.

  • Saturday pickups, we need to know by Thursday.

  • You have the option to choose another pickup day in a given week: we offer share pickup on Tuesday, Wednesday, or Saturday only.

  • You can skip a pickup and receive a double the following week.

  • If you miss your pickup, we will hold your share for 24 hours after your pickup day, and then it will be donated to a local food pantry. With more members than ever before, we don't have the cooler space to hold onto shares longer than this. This is a great option if you accidentally miss your pickup - just come the next day.

  • You can always send a guest to pick up in your place by simply notifying us of their name.

  • Please send us an email to laurelglenfarm@gmail.com 48 hours before your anticipated pickup in order to make a change. You must submit your request in writing in order to leave a paper trail. This allows you to show proof to our store staff at pickup in the event that we need clarification.

  • If a share is picked up outside of your scheduled time (aside from an approved change) or the 24 hour holding period, you will be billed for an additional share.
