Stuff-a-Bag happening this week

FARM STORIES & UPDATES

On Friday we wrapped up our garlic scape cooking challenge. Anyone who posted in our Facebook group to show off a dish they made with garlic scapes was entered, and we selected one winner from each pickup day. These 3 members won a jar of Laurel Glen Farm sauce of their choice.

Tuesday: Linda with garlic scape chocolate truffles.

Wednesday: Amanda with garlic scape hummus.

And Saturday: Kaci with simply grilled garlic scapes.

Thank you to all who contribute inspiration to the group!

Every week, we're excited to be able to introduce some new crops.

This week, everyone is receiving a head of green cabbage. Lifestyle publications deemed 2026 the Year of the Cabbage, so I guess this is kind of a big deal?!

Spoiler alert: This fall, we'll be doing a Laurel Glen Farm cook-off featuring green cabbage. We'll ask for submissions from the public and provide a customized prize to the winner. We'll be looking for major creativity to spotlight why this vegetable deserves to have an entire year dedicated to it. So, put your thinking caps on and start trialing some recipe ideas to submit!

Large share members will receive the first of the summer squash! It'll either be a zucchini or yellow squash depending on how our harvest goes. By next week we anticipate having enough for each member.

Cucumbers aren't ready yet. We do anticipate selling bulk boxes again this year, and we will keep you posted on the timeline for picklers.

Red raspberries are starting to pop! We started harvesting a few containers here and there, and we'll let you know by email newsletter when they're coming in in abundance. It may even be at some point this week before your pickup - stay tuned!

We also get a lot of inquiries about pick-your-own raspberry opportunities. We anticipate holding events on Saturday, July 11th and Saturday, July 18th. We will keep you all posted on whether or not that is the case.

During one of my field walks, I also stumbled upon two ripe, red tomatoes in the greenhouse. A few are starting to turn, and we're crossing our fingers to be able to stock some in the store soon. We won't have enough from our greenhouse to provide in shares - that usually happens about a month from now.

I guess all of this to say we're right on the cusp of harvesting a lot of new crops. But we can't forget to enjoy the here and now. Broccoli and cauliflower are sticking around, as will tender greens for another couple of weeks.

The bounty of the end-of-spring crops signaled that it was time to host our first Stuff-a-Bag event. It will run from Saturday, June 26th through Wednesday, July 1st.

Come to the store during open hours and pay $35 for our bag (members get $5 off). Then stuff it with any of the items out in front of the store.

This round will include: lettuce, escarole, romaine, Napa cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower, garlic scapes, kohlrabi, and other assorted greens.

It's a great opportunity to stock up and stash away some items for the winter. Check out our Vegetable Library of Resources for tips on how to freeze and preserve each crop.

VEGETABLE SUBSCRIPTION PICKUP POLICIES

  • All pickups must take place within store operating hours. For many reasons, we can't leave shares outside the store. Pickup days are Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays.

  • If you need to skip your share for the week, or change your pickup day, you must provide us with 48 hours' notice for any of the options below. This is because we pack shares the day before pickup. Once your share has been harvested and packed, we can not change or cancel your pickup.

  • For Tuesday pickups being changed, we need to know by Sunday.

    • Wednesday pickups, we need to know by Monday.

    • Saturday pickups, we need to know by Thursday.

  • You have the option to choose another pickup day in a given week: we offer share pickup on Tuesday, Wednesday, or Saturday only. We can not have shares ready on any other days.

  • You can skip a pickup and receive a double the following week.

  • If you miss your pickup, we will hold your share for 24 hours after your pickup day, and then it will be donated to a local food pantry. With more members than ever before, we don't have the cooler space to hold onto shares longer than this. This is a great option if you miss your pickup - just come the next day.

  • You can always send a guest to pick up in your place by simply notifying us of their name.

  • Please send us an email to laurelglenfarm@gmail.com 48 hours before an anticipated change. You must submit your request in writing in order to leave a paper trail. This allows you to show proof to our store staff at pickup in the event that we need clarification.

  • If a share is picked up outside of your scheduled time (aside from an approved change) or the 24 hour holding period without proof of a request, you will be billed for an additional share.
