STORIES & UPDATES
Opening Day on Saturday was a beautiful day! It felt wonderful to reunite with all of you, share your excitement for the spring veggies, and feel the breeze and the sunshine streaming in the store. We hope to see more of you in the days ahead.

Our longtime friend Emily joined our team this year and will be staffed in the store on Saturday. She enjoyed meeting so many of you and is already looking forward to sharing recipe ideas when you visit.

Eric rocked the wash station on Friday, prepping squeaky clean veggies for CSA shares and the store. We harvested a ton of overwintered spinach, and we expect to harvest the last of it this week. If you're interested in grabbing some, don't delay!

This week, Randy has a lot of plowing, harrowing, fertilizing, and making raised beds on the agenda. We'll be planting brassicas (cabbage family crops) and cucurbits (summer squash and cucumbers) in the field, as well as seeding more brassicas for future plantings.
Randy snapped a photo of the future flower field! This month, we'll be planting tons of dahlias, sunflowers, zinnias, snapdragons, and other gorgeous fillers for Build-a-Bouquet (and more!) this season.

This week, I'd love to feature two awesome crops that we'll be harvesting from the greenhouse.
One is a leaf cabbage, called Tokyo bekana. It's incredibly tender and can be used in salads, slaw, or even very quickly stir fried with sesame oil or other flavors of your choosing. Mix it with shaved carrots, radishes, and scallions, which are also in season.

The other crop is an Asian greens mix that consists of red and green mustard, mizuna, and tatsoi. It's tender and peppery, though the crunch is slightly more hearty. You can use it as a base for a salad that's topped with chicken, Mandarin oranges, scallions, carrots, and again, dressed with sesame oil. It can also be stir fried.

Be sure to visit our Vegetable Library of Resources on our website. Click on Tokyo bekana and Asian greens mix for a variety of recipe ideas!

VEGETABLE SUBSCRIPTION HOUSEKEEPING
Please remember to bring the balance for your share by cash or check this week.
If you haven't already joined our Facebook group, here is the link to join where we'll be sharing recipes together. https://www.facebook.com/share/g/168wiN8JJh/
If anyone else needs to receive the emails and you haven't already sent me their address, please pass it along to me. I think I added everyone who asked, but my apologies if I missed an addition.
Since we can't make calls to remind you of your pickup, this newsletter will serve as a reminder. Set yourself an alert on your phone!
Please note that Victoria does not work on Thursdays. Emails or phone calls received on Wednesday night through Thursday will be answered on Fridays.
How to Change Your Vegetable Subscription Pickup Day
If you need to skip your share for the week, or change your pickup day, you must provide us with 48 hours' notice for any of the options below. This is because we pack shares the day before pickup. Once your share has been harvested and packed, we can not cancel your pickup.
For Tuesday pickups being changed, we need to know by Sunday.
Wednesday pickups, we need to know by Monday.
Saturday pickups, we need to know by Thursday.
You have the option to choose another of those pickup days in a given week: Tuesday, Wednesday, or Saturday.
You can skip a pickup and receive a double the following week.
If you miss your pickup, we will hold your share for 24 hours after your pickup day, and then it will be donated to a local food pantry. With more members than ever before, we don't have the cooler space to hold onto shares longer than this. This is a great option if you accidentally miss your pickup - just come the next day.
You can always send a guest to pick up in your place by simply notifying us of their name.
Please send us an email to laurelglenfarm@gmail.com 48 hours before your anticipated pickup in order to make a change. A paper trail is always best!
