It's the final week for Main Season

STORIES & UPDATES

This week is the final pickup for our Main Season members. We're celebrating with lots of classic fall vegetables - carrots, kale, potatoes, and more. It's soup season! Share what you're cooking one last time in our Facebook group.

We thank you so much for your participation this season. It was our biggest group ever! We're grateful that you believe in us to grow your food and we hope you tried new veggies, new recipes, and made new connections!

Enrollment Day last Sunday was unbelievable! We sold out of Extended Season on the first day and Peak Season by the end of our 2-Day sale!

Of our 300 spots, 216 have been filled at the time of this writing! 30 or fewer spots remain on each pickup day (Tuesday, Wednesday, or Saturday). This is the earliest we have ever been this full, so if you have not yet signed up, we urge you not to wait. We will not have spots available later in the spring.

Thank you so much if you'll be joining us for another year! Our subscription program truly keeps our farm afloat. It's a commitment to us, and we are so appreciative of all of you.

Save the date for Saturday, November 15th for a chance to give back to our community! We'd like to invite you to the farm from 10-11 a.m. for a volunteer "gleaning". Gleaning is when you harvest excess produce, and in this case, we'll do it for donation.

You'll come to the farm and help us harvest, and our friends at Real Food CT will bring it to local food pantries and soup kitchens. Kids are absolutely welcome - even if they only harvest one single item, it's a beautiful opportunity to teach them the power of giving to others.

No need to pre-register or bring anything. This will be rain or shine unless conditions are dangerous. We'll pick a location when it gets closer.

It was so muddy to start our week that we accidentally got the truck stuck. Randy had to tow it out with the big tractor.

Even on Monday, when it was pouring rain, our crew was out there, continuing their responsibilities. It gets harder to work in the cold - your fingers freeze, especially when you're handling wet produce or at the wash station, repeatedly dunking heads of lettuce in the water.

The wind can be brutal, too. Not only does it sting your face, but it also makes it harder to work. The Reemay cloth that we cover up the crops with flaps all around and is difficult to secure.

Here's Jona, still all smiles though, as he drives a tractor load of Reemay cloth out to the field so we could cover up the crops. This will probably be the last week that we choose to put in this extra effort before we say goodbye to the summer crops until 2026.

We're starting to clean up a bit, too. Randy is seeding the first of the cover crops, we took the bird netting off the grapes, and finally got around to banging out old seedling trays and tomato grow bags from greenhouse 2. A lot of projects aren't wrapped up correctly when we're busy, so now we have to get them done. We still have about 8 more weeks of work for the crew, though! And we even got out shipment of tulip and daffodil bulbs for the spring. We'll be very busy into December...

We stay open until Saturday, December 6th, so be sure to visit us again before then, as we still have a lot to offer. One of our favorite weeks of the year, leading up to Thanksgiving, is a special one. We love knowing that our farm veggies are part of your holiday traditions!

We are desperately seeking more clean boxes to reuse for orders! Think Chewy, Amazon, meal prep service, etc. Simply rip your address label off first - no need to break down the boxes. Please remove any packing materials inside. Thank you for your support!

The remaining mums are on sale for $5 each (plus tax). There are only about 50 left, so snag them while you can!

Vegetable Subscription Pickup Policies

  • All pickups must take place within store operating hours. For many reasons, we can't leave shares outside the store. Pickup days are Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays.

  • If you need to skip your share for the week, or change your pickup day, you must provide us with 48 hours' notice for any of the options below. This is because we pack shares the day before pickup. Once your share has been harvested and packed, we can not change or cancel your pickup.

  • For Tuesday pickups being changed, we need to know by Sunday.

  • Wednesday pickups, we need to know by Monday.

  • Saturday pickups, we need to know by Thursday.

  • You have the option to choose another pickup day in a given week: we offer share pickup on Tuesday, Wednesday, or Saturday only.

  • You can skip a pickup and receive a double the following week.

  • If you miss your pickup, we will hold your share for 24 hours after your pickup day, and then it will be donated to a local food pantry. With more members than ever before, we don't have the cooler space to hold onto shares longer than this. This is a great option if you accidentally miss your pickup - just come the next day.

  • You can always send a guest to pick up in your place by simply notifying us of their name.

  • Please send us an email to laurelglenfarm@gmail.com 48 hours before your anticipated pickup in order to make a change. You must submit your request in writing in order to leave a paper trail. This allows you to show proof to our store staff at pickup in the event that we need clarification.

  • If a share is picked up outside of your scheduled time (aside from an approved change) or the 24 hour holding period, you will be billed for an additional share.
